Coverage Overview
All teachers employed under a contract
either permanent or temporary, must contribute to the Alberta Teachers'
Retirement Fund Board as a condition of employment. Only substitute
teachers do not contribute to the Alberta Teachers' Retirement Fund
Board.
Contributions
For the period September 1 to December
31, 2007, the teacher contribution rate will be 7.21% in pensionable
salary up to $3,641.67 and 11.63% on pensionable salary above $3,641.67.
Effective January 1, 2008, the teacher
contribution rate will revert to the full required rate of 10.31% of
salary pensionable up to the monthly maximum earnings under the Canada
Pension Plan and 14.73% above that level. The monthly maximum
pensionable earnings under the Canada Pension Plan amount for 2008 is
$3,741.67.
The YMPE for 2008 is $44,900.00. The
maximum annual salary rate (cap) for contributions and reporting to TRF
for 2008 is $130,136.50
The Alberta Government pays an employer
contribution on behalf of each active contributing Plan Member.
